What Is A Vehicle Service - And Why Is It Important?

At Tyre City, we provide affordable servicing packages to suit your needs. Whether you want a full car service, interim car service or simply a car oil change, you can rely on our highly trained service technicians.

A car or van service checks the condition of your vehicle based on the guidelines provided by the manufacturer. Depending on the package you choose, it can assess anything from general wear and tear to the engine, brakes, fluid levels and more. Regular servicing is important for many reasons. For example, by maintaining the condition of your vehicle, it reduces the risk of breakdowns and helps to keep you and other road users safe.

It also means that any potential problems are identified as early as possible, ensuring they can be tackled before they get worse. This can give you added peace of mind and save you money by avoiding a hefty repair bill down the line. Also, maintaining a service history can help you to increase the value of your car when you come to sell it.

How Often Should I Get My Vehicle Serviced?

As a general guide, a full vehicle service is recommended every 12 month or 12,000 miles - whichever comes first. If you want to keep your vehicle in the best possible condition between full services, it’s advisable to book interim services after six months or 6,000 miles.

The manufacturer should suggest appropriate service intervals in your vehicle handbook, and you can check the date of your last service stamp in your vehicle log book. Many newer cars also feature on-board computers that alert you when your next service is due.

What Should I Take With Me To A Vehicle Service?

When you come to us for a car or van service, please bring your vehicle log book with you so that the technician can stamp it once the service is complete. This isn’t essential, but having servicing stamps in your log book can help to raise your vehicle’s resale value, so it’s worth doing.

Also, if you’re booking a full service, please bring your locking wheel nut key. This will allow the technician to conduct a wheel-off brake check.
