What Is An MOT?
In short, an MOT test is a legal requirement which follows a set of criteria put in place by the DVSA. The test proves your car or van is roadworthy, and the vehicle must meet the minimum standards in order to pass it.
It’s important to note that driving a vehicle that does not have a valid MOT certificate could land you in serious trouble. You could be fined up to £2,500, receive three points on your licence and be banned from driving altogether.
When Should You Get An MOT Test?
If your car or van is registered in the UK and over three years old, it will require an MOT test every 12 months. Your test due date can be found on your latest MOT certificate. You are issued a new certificate each time your vehicle has an MOT. If you can’t find your most recent MOT certificate, don’t worry - you can also find this information online.
It’s important to note that you won’t be penalised for planning ahead and taking you vehicle in for its annual MOT early. In fact, you can book your MOT appointment up to one month minus a day before it runs out and still keep the same renewal date.
If your vehicle is less than three years old, it will not require an MOT test as it is considered to be in good, safe working order due to its age.
What's Included In An MOT?
During the MOT check, our technicians will assess different parts of your vehicle to make sure they meet the legal standards. Some of the parts that are inspected include the fuel system, exhaust, brakes, tyres and wheels, as well as the steering, lights, suspension and windscreen, including washers and wipers. The seats, seatbelts, mirrors, horn and electrical wiring will also be checked.
